Carrying on with our set of Tuesdays Till Two recitals
On June 25th, We have the wonderful Stephen Barber- (organist)
Stephen Barber read music at Cambridge University. He undertook post-graduate study at the Guilhall School in London, when he was also the organ student at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London and then assistant organist at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. He has been the Director of Music at St John’s since 2003. Stephen is also St john’s regular organist.
A mixture of pieces for organ, from what is possibly the best-known organ piece of all, Bach’s famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor, to jazz pieces from Germany and Hungary. The programme also includes an arrangement for organ of Mendelssohn’s “War March of the Priests”, a piece by a previous organist of Peterborough Cathedral, Stanley Vann, and Boellman’s Suite Gothique which includes one of the best known of the French toccatas.
