Have you heard about our new monthly concert for children under five years old? Held on the first Thursday of each month, the event, which we’ve christened “Piccolo”, takes place in our café area. Doors open at 10am and the music starts at 10.30am and lasts for about one hour. A selection of classical pieces will be played, and then some songs with actions at the end for all to join in with. Admission to Piccolo costs £4 per adult, and each adult may bring up to four children in free of charge. Free refreshments, (coffee/tea.squash and biscuits) are available for everyone. We do ask that any adults coming bring at least one child with them, but other than that all are welcome. Children must be supervised by the adult(s) bringing them at all times. Although the repertoire is aimed at younger children, and older children will generally be in school anyway, adults are welcome to bring in slightly older children too, especially if they are siblings of a younger child who is also coming.
So far we have held two Piccolos, with around 40-50 children at each, and a slightly smaller number of adults. Last time we cleared away a number of the tables to leave plenty of room for the children (and a few of the grownups!) to join in by dancing. The next Piccolo will be on Thursday 5th November, and we are expecting to be joined by the mayor, Cllr John Peach. We’re hoping to arrange a photo-call at this event, so if you are planning to bring a “borrowed” child, please check with parents whether or not they are happy for their child to appear in the pictures, which are intended to help us publicise future Piccolos.
Piccolo has its very own facebook page, which you can like if you would like to be kept up to date with news, including programme details.
