16th October: Lunchtime Concert – Gabriella Pineda-Rodrigues & Kate Wishart (Soprano & Piano)

Join professional opera singer Gabriella Pineda-Rodrigues (Soprano) and Musical Director of Peterborough Opera Kate Wishart (Piano) for our last but one classical lunchtime concert of 2018. Full details of the programme are below, but it will be a journey through the heightened emotions of summer, with melancholic memories of falling in love and of heartbreak, and an exploration of faith filled with encounters with interesting people!

As usual the café will be open from noon, serving a range of hot drinks and home-made quiche, cakes, scones etc. All profits from the café will go to The Green Backyard.

The concert will begin promptly at 1pm. Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation. The suggested amount is £5.

About Gabriella:

Gabriella was a chorister in Peterborough Cathedral where she performed in regular live, televised broadcasts, sang for the Duchess of Gloucester and sang a solo Eucharist before gaining a full scholarship to study at Chetham’s School of Music.
In 2009. In her final year at Chetham’s Gabriella sang in the BBC proms performing Mendelssohn’s Elijah in 2011. At the age of 17, Gabriella sang as a choral scholar in the Royal Naval Chapel Choir in Greenwich, here she sang for the Queen in 2012, performed a solo on BBC radio 3 Choral Evensong, a solo Eucharist, a performance with the renowned Kronos Quartet and sang in two episodes of Songs of Praise.
Alongside singing, Gabriella is also a very passionate teacher, from age 19 she has taught classes of children and regular one to one singing lessons. Gabriella has sung in major venues in the UK; The Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Festival Hall and the Bridgewater Hall.
Gabriella was then awarded “The National Scholarship” to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama undertaking the BMus (Hons) Music degree under the tutelage of David Pollard. Gabriella continues a very busy schedule as a concert singer and recitalist. Gabriella’s opera credits include, Adele in Die Fledermaus (Chetham’s), Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Chethams), Mme Lidoine (2nd Prioress) in The Dialogues of the Carmelites (GSMD), Chorus in Le Donne Curiose (GSMD), Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (GSMD), Alice Ford in Falstaff (AIMS) and 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute (British Youth Opera) Gabriella studies with the famous Coloratura Soprano Lillian Watson.

About Kate:

Kate Wishart went to the Guildhall School of Music and studied piano and percussion there before joining the Academy of the BBC orchestra as timpanist. After 10 years playing professionally she went to medical school and became a GP, whilst continuing to play music as an amateur. Since retiring, she has increased her musical activities and is developing a role as an accompanist. She is currently Musical Director of Peterborough Opera.
