31st July: Lunchtime Concert – Apollo Opera – “More Opera Gems”

For the second concert in our summer season of Tuesdays Till Two we’re delighted to welcome back Apollo Opera, for another concert of operatic treats.

The singers will be Shiona Cormack (Soprano), Jessica Lawrence-Hares (Mezzo-Soprano), Franco Kong (Baritone), and once again Kate Wishart will be providing the piano accompaniment.

They will be performing operatic arias, duets and trios including the beautiful ‘Presentation of the Rose’ From Richard Strauss’s ‘Rosenkavalier’, duets from Verdi’s ‘Rigoletto’ and Rossini’s ‘Barber of Seville’ and selections from ‘Carmen’.

As usual the café will be open from noon, serving a range of hot drinks and homemade quiche, cakes, scones etc. All profits from the café will go to The Green Backyard.

The concert will begin promptly at 1pm. Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation. The suggested amount is £5.

9th June: 7.30pm Evening Concert – Peterborough MS Group 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Peterborough Multiple Sclerosis Group invite you to come and celebrate its 50th Anniversary and enjoy a concert by professional opera singer Gabriella Pineda-Rodrigues who will be accompanied on piano by Kate Wishart – Musical Director for Peterborough Opera.

A reminder that St John’s is fully accessible, but that there is no parking there – there are public car parks close by. Local transport links include the Bus Station which is approximately 5mins walk away and Peterborough Railway Station, approx. 8-10mins away.

The doors open at 19:00, please arrive in plenty of time to be seated before the concert starts at 19:30. Refreshments will be served in the interval.

Advance tickets are available for £8 from the welcome counter in St John’s when the café is open or from the Visitor Information Centre or you can call the MS Society on 07724 549479 or email Peterborough@mssociety.org.uk . Tickets will also be available on the door for £10. Please enquire if you are a carer and would like a free ticket.

15th April at 4pm: Concert performance of Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet

Peterborough Opera presents a concertperformance (in English) of Charles Gounod’s Romeo & Juliet, based on Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, rivalry, and tragedy. The performance will be with piano accompaniment.

20th October: Evening Concert at 7.30pm – Opera versus Jazz!

We’re very excited to present a Peterborough first: Opera versus Jazz!

Scintillating operatic soprano, Gabriella Pineda-Rodrigues and smooth jazz singer Kathryn Howells face-off in a musical match-up which is certain to please even the most discerning of music lovers.

Young leading Pianist, Dominic Degavino – BBC Young Musician Finalist, Royal Overseas League Winner to name but a few competition successes, will join forces with Gabriella in the festivities.

The evening will finish up with a few classic duets – we’re not telling you which duets but we’re sure you’ll love them!

Please clear your evening and join us! You won’t regret it.

9th August: Lunchtime Concert – “Opera Desserts!”

fb_event_buttonIn the second of our August season of lunchtime concerts we’ll be offering you a delicious selection of grand opera and operetta excerpts, with arias, duets and ensembles from composers including Verdi, Mozart, Handel and Sullivan. There’ll be an Italian flavour to the proceedings, which will culminate in a performance of the famous Rigoletto Quartet.

As ever volunteers from The Green Backyard will be ensuring it’s not just your ears that are catered for – our café will be open from noon for the hour before the concert. Admission is free, but if you can afford it, a donation of around £4 is appreciated as it helps us to cover our costs.
